How We Maintain the Quality of Our Practice Questions
Good practice material should do more than give students extra questions to complete. It should test the right skills, provide a suitable level of challenge and help students understand where they can improve.

Every assessment has its own format, purpose and expected level of difficulty. However, students preparing for any assessment need questions that are clear, accurate, suitable for their level and useful for learning.
For this reason, we regularly review and improve our question bank instead of leaving the same practice questions unchanged year after year.

How we review and improve our practice questions
We use question performance data, student feedback, tutoring experience and assessment information to identify where our practice material can be improved.
Question performance reviews
Every six months, we examine how students perform on our questions. This helps us identify questions that may no longer provide enough useful practice.
Replacing questions that are too easy
When 80% or more students answer a question correctly on their first attempt, we review whether it still provides enough challenge. It may be retired and replaced with a slightly more difficult question.
Student feedback
Students can report unclear wording, possible errors or technical problems through the Curious4ever feedback screen. Our team reads this feedback and makes changes where needed.
Official and trusted information
We monitor official sample material, assessment updates and trusted information related to the examinations and subjects that we support.
Tutoring and student experience
Students who attend tutoring with us help us understand which areas they find difficult, which question types work well and where further practice may be useful.
AI support with human review
AI helps our team consider alternative wording, improve explanations and develop more challenging question variations. Our team reviews the material and makes the final decision.
Quality checks must suit each assessment
A good NAPLAN question is not necessarily designed in the same way as a scholarship, ICAS, VCE or Selective Entry question.
Each test series must suit the age of the students, the skills being assessed, the expected difficulty and the way students are required to apply their knowledge.
NAPLAN and school assessments
Questions should use age-appropriate language and test the literacy or numeracy skills expected at the relevant year level.
Scholarship and ICAS preparation
Questions may require stronger reasoning, careful interpretation and the ability to apply familiar skills in unfamiliar situations.

We review relevant ACER communications, official sample questions and student experiences when developing and reviewing this practice material.
VCE and senior subjects
Questions should test the required subject knowledge while asking students to apply, analyse and explain what they know.
